The Sunday Night NFL game between the 'Rivalry of the Decade' teams all came down to a frankly dumb call by New England head coach Bill Belichick, with a little help from his quarterback, Tom Brady.
With two minutes and some seconds to go in the game and a six-point lead, Brady called a timeout before they ever ran a play on their first possession after a Colts' touchdown.
First mistake.
The Colts' defense then came hard against the Patriots and eventually forced a fourth down and two-to-go while the Pats were sitting on their own 27-yard line. You would normally expect the Patriots to kick the ball, but they didn't, instead going for it and not getting it. They fell short on the fourth down play and gave Payton Manning the ball on the Patriots' 29 yard line. A field goal would not help the Colts; they needed a touchdown.
Second mistake.
A Patriots defense shocked by their own coach's bad call, couldn't stop the Colts.
Third mistake.
Payton Manning made short work of the Patriots within a few plays and tossed for the winning touchdown with only 13 seconds to go.
Game, set, and match.
Bill Belichick will be beating himself up for months over his boneheaded move in this one. He handed the Colts the game on a platter.
