Barack Obama Presents His Case in Prime Time

AB collection

The group I formed at Barack Obama dot com

We've raised $24,000 for the campaign.

advertisement

'What more does the guy have to do to get American voters to vote for a black guy?' Chris Matthews of MSNBC said immediately after Barack Obama's 30-minute message to Americans. "He exemplifies the best of us, all of us...'

For about twenty-five minutes of the show, Obama spoke about his plans to bring the country together and explained both his short and long-term plans for the country in detail. Along the way, several typical American families were profiled, some of the members talking about their problems paying for their homes, food, fuel, and medicines.

Even if you don't agree with Obama's plan for America, you have to give him credit for trying to present his case for your vote in a way that ordinary people can understand.

The show closed with a live shot and the last few minutes of Obama giving a speech in Florida. Undoubtedly, the show was viewed by tens of millions of worried citizens, many of whom were probably swayed from the fence to make their choice for President.

If you missed the show, there will be a rerun of it later by MSNBC. Failing that, just ask your friends.

Someone you know probably taped the show. You can also view it in its entirety on YouTube

Is this the final nail in the coffin of the rapidly imploding McCain campaign? America will know on Tuesday night.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I felt this was a respectful and inspiring ad.  Obama may not be perfect but he offers our country a chance to move beyond all of the ugliness of the last 8 years and perhaps lift ourselves up to a better plane.

MSNBC has announced that the ad was viewed by at least 40 million Americans. The Obama campaign paid about $3 million dollars for airtime.

Considering that Super Bowl airtime costs $500,000 and up PER MINUTE, this is a good deal for a half hour show that reached so many folks in prime time.

I've already cast my vote for him today.  But I have to say that I was very moved by it.  I thought it was great.  Even people who may not agree with his policies have to give him this one it was positive, it was real and it was not over the top.  It made me think what if all politicians behaved this way, maybe we wouldn't all be sick to death of it. (politics that is)  Its refreshing, for the first time in my adult life I am really proud of us.  I don't like the negativity, you shouldn't have to be nasty and create fear for someone to vote for you.

David Haas - Time to check into the Reality Hotel. George Bush and his irresponsible policies have made him the most unpopular President in recent history. He managed to get us into two wars, establish a torture center in a country we once pointed to as evil, crush middle-class working America under his boot, and a host of other things. You are asking people to support more of the same at a time of the most grave economic crisis - with a guy who has admitted he knows little on the subject.

Americans can be a bit slow to react sometimes, but when they do, they usually act decisively. You can take your rather lame message elsewhere, because American voters are no longer listening to it.

Besides, everyone at Newsvine knows that you are a banker who donates to a PAC supporting McCain, as I stated previously. You are wasting your time at this late date trying to come aboard with scare tactics to somehow convince people McCain is right for America. Those tactics have been roundly rejected by the American people, and no one is listening, except maybe the folks who wave their Obama dolls and wear those racist t-shirts at Palin rallies.

They want to divide America. They seek to instill fear in order to generate votes. Some even try to suppress the vote with phony flyers and ridiculous voting requirements in a few states.

          It won't work.

Voters are getting ready to toss the bums out on November 4th. That is only six days from now.  I predicted a huge backlash in the election back in July of 2007 and I see no reason to change that view now.
